Tsepo Masilela: Kaizer Chiefs should sign Bongani Zungu

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Amazulu defender Tsepo Masilela believes Amakhosi should sign Bongani Zungu as they currently do not have a senior player.

According to the latest reports, Tsepo Masilela has backed Kaizer Chiefs to seal the deal of the experienced Bongani Zungu as they currently do not have a senior player.

Zungu is currently unattached to any club since he part ways Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2023/24 Season. His exit at the PSL Champions came as a shock since he was a regular starter.

The 31-year-old has been heavily linked with the Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, which is now managed by Rulani Mokwena who was working with Bongani Zungu last season at the Chloorkop based side.

MASILELA BACKS ZUNGU TO SHINE AT CHIEFS

When Tsepo Masilela spoke with the media, he mentioned that Bongani Zungu has the experience since he has played in Europe for years and also won trophies.

The former Kaizer Chiefs left back also stated that Bongani Zungu was once managed by Steven Gerrard while he was still at the Scottish giants Rangers.

Masilela believes Amakhosi currently do not have a senior player and Zungu is the right man to guide the young players at the club.

Kaizer Chiefs currently has a number of young players as Kaizer Motaung Jr mentioned last year that going forward they will be focusing on signing young players so that they can groom them and also under the culture of Kaizer Chiefs football.

The club has already signed Gaston Sirino, who was also a free agent after being released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season.

Kaizer Chiefs have also brought in Bongani Sam after parting ways with Sifiso Hlanti, Rushwin Dortley and also Fiacre Ntwari.

BONGANI ZUNGUʼS FOOTBALL CAREER

The Gauteng born star started his football career at Dynamos fc before sealing his first ever deal with a professional club. His first professional club was the University of Pretoria (AmaTuks).

The 31-year-old signed with Mamelodi Sundowns back in July 2013, just a year after signing with the University of Pretoria.

Bongani Zungu spent just three years at Masandawana before leaving the club for the Portuguese side, Victoria Guimaraes.

The Portuguese side then sold Bongani Zungu to the French Ligue 1 side, Ameins SC for a fee which was around €2 Million.

The talented midfielder also played under the former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard at Rangers fc. He spent only one year at the Scottish giants as it was just a loan deal.

Despite spending just one season in Scotland, Zungu won the league with Rangers fc.

He returned to Ameins SC a year later. The 31-year-old decided to return to South Africa back in 2022 and decided to re-sign with Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent.

Apon his return to the Dstv Premiership champions, he was then labeled as the highest paid player in the club, pocketing a whooping R700k per month.

Should Kaizer Chiefs decide to approach the player, they should surely go deep in their pockets as the player will not come cheap.
