Her mother is a certified nurse, and she has two brothers, Thabiso and Kabelo, along with a sister named Tebogo Mafole.
Originally, their family of six resided in Klerksdorp, but they later relocated to Tshwane when Mapula was ten years old.
Tragically, both of her parents, Moses and Monica, departed for the United Kingdom for work-related reasons shortly after the move, leaving Mapula and her siblings in the care of her older sister, Tebogo, who is married to DJ Christos.
The family settled in Pretoria, where Mapula’s sister cared for her until she ventured off to university.
Depression
Mapula’s childhood was marked by the absence of her parents, which had a profound impact on her emotional well-being.
The challenges of changing schools and adapting to city life left her feeling isolated and lonely. She internalized her emotions, leading to a battle with depression and anxiety.
Her coping mechanisms included secluding herself in her bedroom for days, skipping meals, and shedding tears incessantly.
At the age of 13, Mapula recognized the need for help and sought assistance from her school psychologist. Through therapy sessions, she began to rebuild her life and discovered her passion for acting. Her enrollment in an acting course at AFDA was a significant step towards her newfound career.
However, the return of her father to South Africa took a toll on her mental health, as he suffered a stroke. This intensified her struggle with depression. Her determination to overcome this challenge led her back to therapy.
