OFFICIAL: Mayo joins CR Belouizdad on a permanent deal

Bafana Bafana striker Khanyisa Mayo has finally joined the Algerian side, CR Belouizdad from Cape Town City on a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old striker was heavily linked with Betway Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and also Orlando Pirates, however, the Algerian giants won the race on an undisclosed fee.

Khanyisa Mayo has been one of the top players in Betway Premiership for quite some time now, managing to score more than ten goals last season.

It was revealed earlier this week that the player has agreed personal terms with a Northern club, however, it was not revealed which club he has agreed personal terms with.

Pictures of the Bafana Bafana striker and his agent circulated on social media where they were in Turkey. It was then stated that CR Belouizdad are currently camping in Turkey as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The club officially announced the signing of Khanyisa Mayo on Saturday, joining the likes of Arafat Doumbia, Hedy Chaabi, Farid Chaal and other quality players who has signed with the Algerian side during this June transfer window.

 

KHANYISA MAYOʼS POSITION IN THE FIELD

The 25-year-old is a natural striker, however, he is also known for being a quality winger and also an attacking midfielder. He can play as a left winger and also as a right winger.

Eric Tinkler has been using the Bafana Bafana star as a striker, which has worked in the favour of the coach and also for the club as he was the clubʼs top goalscorer last season.

It has been revealed that Cape Town City are now looking to sign Kermit Erasmus, who is currently a free-agent after parting ways with Orlando Pirates last month. He is a familiar face at The Citizens as he has played for the club before joining Mamelodi Sundowns.

 

KHANYISA MAYOʼS BACKGROUND

Khanyisa Mayo is originally from Umtata, which is a place that is based in Eastern Cape. That is where he grew up and started his football career at the Supersport united academy.

Mayo was promoted to the Supersport united reserve side back in July 2017 as he was seen as a promising player.

He was then loaned to Ubuntu fc back in January 2018, which was just six months after being promoted to the reserve team.

The striker moved to KwaZulu-Natal back in 2018 and played for Royal eagles and Richards Bay Football Club. After playing for Royal eagles and Richards Bay Football Club respectively, Mayo then signed with Cape Town City fc.

Khanyisa Mayo joined Cape Town City fc back in July 2021 for an undisclosed fee. He then spent three years at the club, becoming one of the top players in the league and also linked with a number of clubs.

The newly signed CR Belouizdad striker scored a total of 29 goals for Cape Town City fc and also registered six assists in 93 matches.

He was barely used when he was still at Richards Bay Football Club, Ubuntu fc and also at Royal eagles.
