Kaizer Chiefs have withdrawn their interest in signing Bafana Bafana defender Thabang Phethe after failing to reach an agreement with the player.
According to several reports, Kaizer Chiefs were interested in bringing Thabang Phethe back to South Africa. Unfortunately, both parties could not reach an agreement over personal terms and the club has started looking for other alternatives.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs since the June transfer window opened. It seemed like everything was in order until they discussed personal terms.
With the experience that Thabang Phethe has, it was no surprise that he would be looking to sign a massive contract with Amakhosi. However, it turned out that the clubʼs management were not looking to meet the demands of the South African born defender.

The 30-year-old is currently under the books of the Portuguese side, Chaves. He is one of South African players who spent most of their football careers in Portugal.
Kaizer Chiefs have already completed the signing of Cape Town Spurs and Bafana Bafana defender Rushwin Dortley for a fee which is believed to be around R10 Million.
The club hoped they could reach an agreement with also Thabang Phethe so that the player could pair with Rushwin Dortley at the back.
Amakhosi have already signed Bongani Sam, who plays the left-back. The recruitment of new players continue at the Glamour boys as the clubʼs management stated that they will be looking to support the newly appointed Nasreddine Nabi in any possible way during the June transfer window.
It was not revealed by the source on how much Thabang Phethe wanted at Kaizer Chiefs. The club already has the likes of Zitha Kwinika, Yusuf Maart, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Edmilson Dove who are one of the top earning players in the league.
Despite having a number of players who are top earners in the league, the club has already released Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat, which was a huge relief for the management as they were believed to be earing R1.4 Million and R833k respectively.
Thabang Phetheʼs Position
The 30-year-old can play as a central defender, however, he can also play as a defensive midfielder and also as a central midfielder.
Amakhosi were hoping to sign the player and use him as a defender as they felt it is a position where they lack the most.
