REPORTS: Chiefs interested in signing former Sundowns midfielder

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have shown interest in signing Supersport united midfielder Grant Margerman ahead of the new season.

According to several reports, Grant Margerman is one of the highly-rated players who are currently targeted by Kaizer Chiefs.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder joined Supersport united on a permanent deal last year on an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-oldʼs representatives have already been contacted by the Kaizer Chiefs management about the availability of the player.

He joins the list of the players who has been linked with a move to Amakhosi. The likes of Thabo Cele, Elias Mokwana and Iqraam Rayners. The club has already parted ways with a number of players and more players are expected to leave before the June transfer window closes.

Siyethemba Sithebe, Keagan Dolly, Sifiso Hlanti, Njabulo Ngcobo and Efmamjjasond Gonzalez are some of the players who have already left the club. It was further revealed that the likes of Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Wandile Duba are some of the players who could still leave on loan.

When Doctor Khumalo spoke to the media, he revealed that the newly appointed Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi will release around six players on loan deals before the 2024/25 season starts.

Thabo Cele has already been contacted by the Kaizer Chiefs crew, however, nothing solid has been reached so far, leaving a room for new players who plays the similar position to arrive at the club.

Grant Margerman is familiar with the South African Premier Soccer League football as he has already made more than 100 appearances. He is labeled as one of the best midfielders in South Africa, and Supersport united letting go of the player will not be easy.

 

Grant Margermanʼs Position

The 26-year-old is a well-experienced central midfielder, however, he is also familiar with the defensive midfield position. Grant Margerman has also played as an attacking midfielder in some occasions.

The midfielder can easily replace Siyethemba Sithebe in the squad. Sithebe has already joined Richards Bay Football Club as a free-agent, just few days after being released by Amakhosi.

Amakhosi has already invested in the midfield players and they continue searching for players who could feel the gap that was left by the likes Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

Given Msimango, Edson Castillo, Yusuf Maart, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Samkelo Zwane and Sabelo Radebe are the current players at Kaizer Chiefs who plays the central midfield position.

 

Grant Margermanʼs Background

The 26-year-old is originally from the Western Cape side, Cape Town. He was born on the 3rd of June 1998.

Grant Margerman started his football career at the development team of Ajax Cape Town (now known as Cape Town Spurs). He signed his first professional contract with Ajax Cape Town back in 2016. Four years later, he joined Mamelodi Sundowns.

The midfielder was tipped to succeed at the Chloorkop based side, however, he failed to adapt and was loaned to Moroka Swallows a year later.

He was also loaned to Supersport united by Mamelodi Sundowns before being permanently sold last year.
