Orlando Pirates have joined the race to sign the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino as a free-agent.
According to several reports, Orlando Pirates are hoping to soon seal a deal with the Uruguayan midfielder before 2024/25 season starts.
Despite being 33 years old, Gaston Sirino is still being chased by a number of top clubs including Kaizer Chiefs and Wydad Casablanca. Orlando Pirates are the latest club to show interest in the highly-rated midfielder.

Reports have revealed that Gaston Sirino is currently in his home country, Uruguay, however, his representatives have been in contact with Orlando Pirates management and things are believed to be going well.
A source further revealed that things are still unclear between the 33-year-old and Kaizer Chiefs. On the other hand, Orlando Pirates are looking to seal the deal as soon as possible.
Orlando Pirates were hoping Gaston Sirino will join the club in Spain, however, there are issues with visas and other documents. The player is however expected to return to South Africa.
Gaston Sirino parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season, along with the players like Bongani Zungu, Mandela Onyango and also Thabiso Kutumela.
The 33-year-old joined Mamelodi Sundowns from the Bolivian side, Bolivar, back in 2018. During his time at Mamelodi Sundowns, Gaston Sirino won a number of clubs at Mamelodi Sundowns and was a regular starter under Pitso Mosimane.
Despite being heavily linked with a move to the Egyptian giants, Al Ahly SC, over the past years, Mamelodi Sundowns were not knee on selling the player to the club.
In just 2024, Orlando Pirates have parted ways with the likes of Thembinkosi Lorch, Eva Nga, Kermit Erasmus, Vincent Pule and also Fortune Makaringe, who are also playing in the attacking department.
Releasing a number of players in the attacking department has opened a huge gap at Orlando Pirates, leaving a space for a highly-rated player like Gaston Sirino to fit in.
Orlando Pirates have already signed the Angolian striker, Gilberto, from Petro Atletico. However, they are looking to beef up their squad even further, as they will be participating in CAF Champions League next season.
Gaston Sirinoʼs position in the field
The 33-year-old is a man of many talents. He can play as a left-winger, right-winger, central-Forward and also as an attacking midfielder. He was used mostly as a left winger at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Orlando Pirates already have Patrick Maswangayi and Monnapule Saleng in the wingers department, which would complicate things a little bit for Gaston Sirino.
The club also has the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng, Deon Hotto, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Zakhele Lepasa, Katlego Otladisa, Kabelo Dlamini and also Lesedi Kapinga, who are in the attacking department.
Gaston Sirinoʼs background
Gaston Sirino started his football career in Uruguay, where he represented Rampla Jrs. He then moved to Chile twelve years ago.
While in Chile, Gaston Sirino played for San Felipe and also San Luis. He spent five years in Chile before moving Bolivia.
The 33-year-old has spent most of his professional football career in South Africa, and it also like he will remain in South Africa if he seals a deal with Orlando Pirates in the upcoming weeks.
